iKamva Mobile Application: 7 770 downloads to-date

The Centre for Innovative Education and Communication Technologies (CIECT) initiated the design and development of a Mobile Application for iKamva (Android devices), in March 2014. In August 2015 a beta-version was released to the UWC’s Community.

NB: During a time-frame (of merely four/4 weeks, including an academic break), CIECT confirmed that 3700 downloads occurred, confirming the need for the iKamva Mobile Application.
NB: To-date, the iKamva mobile application has been downloaded several times (i.e. 7 770 confirmed from the database).

The iKamva Android Application includes features such as:

– iKamva Access: Users can gain access to their respective online courses (including, content, discussion forums and eAssessments) – from any geographical space via mobile devices.
– Campus Map: Users are able to utilise the University of the Western Cape Map (UWC) application to view Faculties and Departments locations on campus.
– Emergency Call: Users are able to make a direct call to the institution’s Campus Protection Service (CPS).
– UWC Directories: Users are provided with a directory of contact details pertaining to UWC Departments and Faculties.

NB: In addition, UWC students are able to save content offline, allowing access to stored content – without internet connection.

**This mobile application is locally hosted at UWC; and available (downloadable) – from the iKamva platform.

**The CIECT team will communicate any further upgrades and developments regarding the iKamva Android application.

  1. Will an app be developed for iOS soon?

    1. Unfortunately our development team does not have access to the resources to develop for Apple devices at this time. We do plan on catering for all platforms in future.
