Lecturer, Dr Karen Collett from Education Faculty consulted with the CIECT team on how to create an interactive online environment for the Advanced Certificate in School Management Leadership (ACE). The Programme is offered as a part-time course for school principals and senior management members. Face-to-face lectures take place on Saturdays only and therefore the online environment enables the students to:
– access course materials/resources
– receive announcements and course emails
After each lecture all course resources and Powerpoint presentations are made available to students. The online environment facilitates easy access by student to key information and resources as well as facilitates closer contact and communication between the course participants and their lecturers.
Karen states: “As a lecturer on the programme I have found it extremely useful and have access to what my colleagues are teaching in other modules. This has helped me to ensure that there is cross-curricular coherence and no duplication between module content on the course. This has also helped me to deepen aspects covered in other course modules and to mediate the links between what I am teaching and what my colleagues have taught. Having a whole course on-line hold a lot of potential for “on-line communities of practice” as we all exchange resources and ideas.”
Currently all ACE lecturers and mentors are receiving training to support their interactive teaching and learning interventions.
Furthermore (in 2015) the use of the discussion forum, assessment activities for creative teaching and learning methodologies will be more extensively explored.

NB: Please note that the eTeaching platform (Chisimba) will be phased out by the end of 2014. Hence lecturers are encouraged to contact the CIECT team, to make use of the iKamva (Sakai) platform.
